Vaughn Whitetail Ranch offers a premier South Texas whitetail buck hunting experience. All of our whitetail deer are wild, South Texas deer, not in release pens. We also practice fair chase hunting, giving you the chance to spend a few days out in the blinds, focusing only on the hunt for a trophy whitetail buck. At the end of your trip, you will have had many great opportunities to go home with a beautiful buck and a story for a lifetime.
You’ll be paired up with one of our ranch guides who will be with you every step of the way. Whether you are a novice hunter or have been hunting since you could walk, you’ll have a great experience at Vaughn Whitetail Ranch.
While our guides will teach you everything you need to know about the land for your hunt, it is always helpful to be prepared, so here’s a little information about whitetail deer hunting:
About Whitetail Deer
Whitetail deer are native to Canada, the United States, Mexico, and South America as far south as Peru. The population of deer here in the Golden Triangle of Texas is plentiful, so they are a popular species for hunters. Mature whitetail bucks in South Texas have larger antlers and tend to weigh above average, reaching about 230 pounds, while mature does are closer to 120 lbs.
Deer tend to be wary of humans, which is why hunters have to take care to be quiet and control their scent. When they’re frightened, they can run as fast as 45 miles and hour and jump almost nine feet, allowing them to escape quickly, so you may only have one chance to take a shot at any given instance.
